His Excellency Mr Michal Kolodziejski
The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Australia

Yarralumla ACT 2600

Your Excellency,

On behalf of all members of the Australian Institute of Polish Affairs, I would like to express our sorrow at the murder in Poland of the Mayor of Gdansk, President Pawel Adamowicz, and to offer our condolences.

We are all deeply shaken and disturbed by this act of violent hatred. We join all people of good will in condemning this barbarous act, and we express our solidarity with the family and friends of Mayor Adamowicz, and with all victims of hatred and violence.

Since its formation in 1991, our Institute has been actively involved in promoting tolerance, and in condemning, opposing and combating prejudice, hatred, discrimination and violence in all domains of social life, regardless of their sources: political extremism, bigotry, racism, antisemitism and xenophobia.

The murder of Pawel Adamowicz shows there is a lot more to be done. We hope at least that his death will be a call for action to all Poles, regardless where they live, to unite in our common struggle against prejudice, lawlessness and barbarity.

Yours sincerely,

Aleksander M. Gancarz OAM
