Chief architect of Poland’s economic reforms following the collapse of communism. Economist and former chairman of the National Bank of Poland (2001–2007) and Deputy Prime Minister (1989-1991, 1997-2001), famous for successfully implementing Poland’s ‘shock therapy’ economic transformation program in the 1990s. During his visit in 2008 Prof. Balcerowicz was awarded an Hon. LLD by the University of NSW. (1993 and 2008).
