Statement of Solidarity with Jewish Community

The Australian Institute of Polish Affairs (AIPA) condemns unequivocally the abhorrent and senseless terrorist attack on the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne. This act of violence has not only targeted a place of worship but also struck at the very heart of our shared values of multicultural, peaceful coexistence.

Anti-Semitism is a scourge that has no place in any society. It is profoundly disturbing to witness its recent resurgence in acts of violence, hate speech and discrimination, that deeply affect the safety and well-being of Jewish people in Australia. Such prejudice is an affront to human dignity and the principles of inclusion and respect that underpin our diverse communities.

To our Jewish friends, neighbours, and fellow Australians, particularly those in Melbourne, we stand with you during this difficult time. We recognize the shock, pain and fear that such attacks bring to a community already burdened by historical tragedies and enduring challenges.

Let us reaffirm that Australia remains a place where diversity is celebrated, and every community has the right to live, worship, and thrive without the fear that hatred and violence engender.

AIPA President
